Cathy Train, 2010 Charlottesville ATHENA Award winner

All of us here know what an amazing leader and community force for good is Cathy Train, president of United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area, but now, we hope a few more people do, too.

Cathy was awarded the ATHENA Award during Thursday’s Quadruplicity conference. ATHENA Award Recipients are individuals who

  • Demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession.
  • Provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community.
  • Actively assist women in realizing their full leadership potential.

As last year’s recipient, Cheri Lewis, said, Cathy Train just “hits it out of the park” when it comes to those criteria. Her nomination included several testimonials from leading women in the community, as well as from her staff.

From leading the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area for more than 20 years and initiating several programs and partnerships, to serving on boards, to chairing the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Albemarle Rotary Club, to mentoring women throughout the community and providing a family-friendly work environment for her employees, Cathy Train is the real deal.

We are so proud and so lucky to work with Cathy on a daily basis and are so pleased that her strong influence on this community on so many levels has finally been recognized on a very public level.
